Peace Is Every Step
By Thich Nhat Hanh
Reviewed: October 2006
Thich
Nhat Hanh, Zen master and spiritual leader, is an exiled Buddhist
monk who was nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize by Martin
Luther King, Jr. in 1967. If you have never read a book of
his, do your self a favour and get one of them. Any one of
them; he’s written over a dozen. Each of them is a gem—or
at least the few I’ve read.
Peace is Every Step is one of them. A slight thing—only
135 pages—it will make you think, and see yourself and
your world through new eyes. The topics are timeless: the
futility of blame, the search for self, the desire for serenity.
He writes simply, in everyday language allowing the reader
to feel an immediate sense of connection. One will not feel
“talked at;” rather you will be talked with and
invited into an internal conversation that can prove most
rewarding.
I first read this one many years ago and recently re-read
it on a cool evening in front of the fire. It warms the heart
like the fire warmed my body.
So, rather than an individual book review, though this slim
volume is a gem worth reading over and over, I recommend anything
Thich Nhat Hanh has written. He is a special man with a special
message; well worth the time it takes to read his words.
